Matthew 8:23-27 ESV
And when He got into the boat, the desciples followed Him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And He said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey Him?’
There are numerous things in these verses that I would like to talk about, but for the sake of time I have narrowed down a few points.
There are many things that could compare us to this boat being rocked by wind and waves. Think about life. Your marriage problems, your work problems, problems with addictions, and worry over tomorrow. What I have learned to do better, is to just relax sometimes when things get nerve racking. Look at Jesus. The boat appeared to be sinking and possibly having a chance to be torn to pieces. What was Jesus doing? Sleeping! What faith and peace you have to have to sleep through your stressful times. I think what He is telling us here is that He is in control. Just keep your faith in Him and let Him handle the problems that arise.
Our faith in God and His Son is what should be our anti-anxiety medicine. Think about this...Remember when you were young and you cut yourself, or fell and hurt yourself? Who did you go to to tell you all is ok? Your mom, dad, grandmother, ect... When you heard them tell you everything was going to be alright, didn’t it immediately give you some peace about the situation? Same thing should be with us in our lives now. When you are hurt or stressed or sad or whatever, just ask God to help you through. After you ask Him, then leave it with Him because He is in control anyway and the more you try and fix things out of your control, is the more you are showing that you don’t trust God to take care of you.
I long for the day when my faith is soo strong that when trouble arises, I just take a nap and let God do what He does best......Take care of me. Remember though, if you are continually under the same type of stress and turmoil, it may be that you have something in your life that God isn’t proud of. He wants all of us, not just the part of us that shows up at church on Sundays and Wednesdays.
Please turn your life over to God and His will for you. He can’t use you unless you are willing to be used. Pray for Him to use you!
